I’m Jay Shumaru, founder of Shumaru. My journey began years ago when I encountered a handcrafted board by Master Lim, a Korean wood artisan whose skill and dedication left a lasting impression. That moment shaped our mission: to create kitchen pieces that honor timeless tradition while serving the needs of the modern home.
Today, Shumaru boards are handmade in Bali by skilled artisans under the guidance of Master Lim, using sustainably sourced tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and teak. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind—hand-sanded to a silky finish and designed with thoughtful details like juice grooves, ergonomic grips, and non-slip feet.
Built thick and strong, our boards resist warping, cracking, and knife marks, standing the test of time through everyday cooking and special gatherings alike. Food-safe, eco-friendly, and made to last, every Shumaru board reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
